Entrepreneurs – Begin At The End!

Most of us have fond memories of the cartoon superstar Mickey mouse. Its creator Walt Disney has transformed the lives of millions by pioneering innovative ways of storytelling. It was his dream to give his audience the very best and this enabled him to experiment with technology and creativity. There were many projects and ideas that Disney was confident in and saw through. In creating an impeccable experience of Disneyland, Walt had a singular vision for an entertainment place for both children and parents alike. He stayed true to his lasting words, “If you can dream it, you can do it.
.
The Walt Disney model of creating strategy is developed on the Disney’s style of thinking. Walt Disney saw the creative dreamer as the starting point. It allows the person to see their dream (their vision) without restrictions. And when a genius does it, it allows the genius to see what industry rules are useful, what existing mindsets need to be shattered to achieve that dream.Remember, when we used to struggle (maybe not all) with Trigonometry in our childhood and had to prove if an equation is exactly equal to a completely different equation? What I would do that often, I’d start with the final answer and retrace my steps to complete the answer to that equation. When an artist paints, it may appear like they are only applying one stroke of colour after another but more often than not, an image has already revealed itself in the depths of their imagination and they are merely rendering it on a blank canvas, isn’t it?
To begin at the end, the final outcome where the person wants to be, has been one of the significant capabilities that has enabled me in figuring out what’s missing in a person and what strategic adjustments they need now to reach where they want to be.
And I’d like to share the same secret with the emerging entrepreneurs to help them accelerate their pathway to launching their dream ventures and emerging as successful business owners.
How to disrupt the status quo with your venture? Begin with the end!
When you approach your business with the final outcome picture in mind, it helps you to be strategic and figure out where your business is headed at present versus where you’d like it to be in 5 years down the line. This strategy will keep you on track, figure out the gaps at present, and allow you to start fitting the missing pieces, before the foundation begins to crack and your business go awry. With this approach, you can fundamentally be your own coach and fast-track the growth and success of your venture:

                      1. Provided that you have a decent knowledge about your industry, predict what you want from your own in 2-5 years from now. This can be all fancy and one that motivates you and makes you work for it. An example of this is someone in the business of social networking picturing the end outcome as a viral app like Facebook or Instagram, with a specific number of downloads or monthly active users.

2. Now, keeping that final outcome there, come back to the present and figure out what short-term achievements say in a month or so, will clearly indicate that you are in the right direction towards your final outcome. Remember, these achievements should be measurable, whether in terms of revenue or number of people, or any other criteria.

3. Next, you figure out the actionable steps that you can start doing or enhancing what you are already doing. You may enumerate several steps or alternatives that you have for achieving the outcome. And then actually see yourself perform each of those tasks, one after another. Pay close attention to how you feel in your body when you imagine yourself performing each of these tasks. If there’s a feeling of difficulty or stress, break it down further into easier actions. If it feels comfortable, you’re good to go.

This model allows you to see what strategic adjustments, over a period of time, will lead to a certain set of consequences.
